Dear Mr Evans
It should be obvious to even the casual observer of catastrophic weather related events that this hurricane season which has been devastating to the entire gulf coast this year is global warming in action.
As ocean temperatures rise, the fury of these storms will only increase. The intensity we are currently seeing is a result of a single degree rise in average ocean temperature. Scientist have projected that it will continue to rise over the next 50 to 100 years by anywhere from 3 to 7 degrees. If the current ferocity of storms and hurricanes is any indication, a rise of even 3 degrees would not only more deadly to life, it would also be economically crippling for all nations of earth including the United States.
All of our collective future prosperity depends entirely upon this fact: We need to reduce our emission of Co2 by 70% immediately in order to slow global warming driven climate change. Every dollar we spend toward that will be considered an ounce of prevention. Every dollar not spent toward that end will require a pound of cure. Global warming is the single most important issue that all governments and societies world wide will be faced with in the coming years.
Since Americans emit 25% of the worlds Co2 while comprising only 6% of the worlds population we must lead the world in solving this very real crisis.
In Pulitzer prize winner Ross Gelbspan's book "Boiling Point" you can read one of the most sober of perspectives upon this issue and a solution which could actually work to slow the effects of global warming and prevent the greatest disaster ever faced by humanity.
Mr. Evans, please take the time to view the video presentation which can be found at the following link; http://www.heatisonline.org/video
At the website you will find what is called the World Energy Modernization Plan See; http://www.heatisonline.org/
This plan goes well beyond the Kyoto Protocol and is a truly comprehensive plan that we as concerned citizens could work toward implementing. It will result in an economic boom. You owe it to your constituency to at least take a look at this far reaching solution.
The other point I should make is that no plan addresses the issues held dear by so many different citizens. If you want world peace you need to make sure that people in countries that depend upon sales of oil to survive have an alternative as we stop using fossil fuels. The world energy modernization plan accounts for this. If your issue is health care then the warming of the planet is quickly going to become your worst nightmare. Since global warming extends the range of current disease carrying insects and at the same time expands the number of insects able to carry diseases, global warming is clearly setting the stage for a pandemic. If your issue is jobs/poverty then the world economic boom we could start by beginning to develop a robust program aimed at changing the world over to clean energy will be the most effective use of your time. If your issue is the great disparity between the rich and the poor then the redistribution of power can be best accomplished through diversifying our energy consumption into the renewable energy market.
While the problem of global warming is monumental it can be surmounted and in doing so we will create a more peaceful world and more jobs than ever before in history.
Global Warming is the issue and the World Energy Modernization Plan is the solution.
Perhaps you can pass this site ( http://www.heatisonline.org/ ) and the World Energy Modernization Plan on to your colleagues?
The very future of humanity depends upon your action upon the crisis of Global Warming and the catastrophic climate change that will inevitably result from it Mr. Evans.
Thank you for your time

My current research is concerned almost exclusively with Global Warming. America is nearly the only country that doesn't accept global warming as a fact. Given that this country is at least 5 times more responsible for causing global warming I'm not entirely surprised by the level of denial... or the incredible amount of money being spent on keeping global warming a matter of debate rather than actually addressing what pentagon officials describe as the single greatest threat facing the national security of the United States.
