American Revolution continued...

George W. Bush has effectively ruined discourse in America. I realize that
more and more as I knock on doors looking for that undecided vote I can nudge
into the Kerry camp. It seems that people who support the election
(re-election just isn't happening here) of George W. Bush have decided that if
belligerence is good enough for the President of the United States, then it is
good enough for them. In fact, most Bush supporters flatly refuse to discuss
anything at all. I'm for Bush! no further discussion allowed they'll
say!
In fact one Bush supporter, an angry white male, even suggested firearms
might be necessary to ward off further onslaughts from political campaigners
here in Scott County Iowa. I feel sorry for the next guy.
Sounds just like George! Anyone within the present administration who has
decided to continue "bringing up the discussion" has been asked
rather rudely for their resignations, George Tenet and Richard Clarke being
two of the higher profile "mistakes" as George would put it. Those
outside the reach of simple termination (we fired Saddam long ago) have had
their regimes changed. George Bush has made America into the worlds playground
bully. Only attacking those who cannot fight back.
No actual discussion of facts is allowed. Not that that would matter
anyway. These Americans are ruled by fear which has completely clouded their
ability to make any rational decisions.
No, no real discourse here in America it seems. Just opposing worldviews. One
states that the world is an evil place and you have to make your children good
because left to their own desires they'll do only what they love... you have
to beat that out of them. The other world view is well... based upon love.
That earth is an insane asylum and you're born into it more or less perfect
and you get messed up by the inmates and their crazy ideas when you arrive. So
those are our choices. Fear or love.
Should we allow fear to rule America restarting the cold war and plunge the
entire world into chaos as we near the end of oil? by that thinking, someday
someone will justify a nuclear strike in order to obtain the oil we have all
become addicted to and so desperately need. Most of our food today wouldn't be produced or brought to
market without precious oil. No other commodity is as valuable as oil. When
it's gone, it's gone! We will be left holding our laptops and our empty
bellies, wishing we'd grown a garden instead of playing the stock market.
Oil is making the world a dangerous, polluted, and plutocratic place. With
renewable energy and especially solar and wind power you get more jobs, dual use of the
land with virtually no environmental impact, cleaner air, a more peaceful
planet and sharing of power by the many instead of it being concentrated into the
hands of the oil barons.
Think of a world based upon love. Electricity is a wonderful thing but we
may have to give it up. If I had a choice, I would keep global communications
and the internet and ride my bicycle from here to California or Washington
D.C. or where ever I really wanted to. We work so hard just at
keeping the infrastructure going in this world... if we gave our cars up and
used bikes and mass transit we could probably all work at least 10 hours less
per week.
A world of love would be a world at play.
We can no longer afford to live our lives in denial of our world killing
oil addiction. We look down upon a heroin addict for ravaging their own body
and ruining their own life while we in our SUV's continue sanctimoniously in the
cancerous behavior that is wreaking so much havoc with the entire world.
Belligerence... an unfailing denial of all relevant facts coupled with 9/11
and we can kick their ass and take their gas....
Just remember, George Bush has spent the blood of our sons and our
daughters for the very narrow interests of the oil men. There is too much
blood in our oil.
Democracy can only survive if we declare our independence. Energy
Independence. The next level of the continuing American revolution.
